Un vecs pārtop jaunā... / And old becomes new...

Vasaras karstumā tamborlietas neaiztiktas nogulēja sienas skapja dziļumos, līdz beidzot pirms dažām dienām sajutu, ka apģērbdarināšanas iedvesma atgriezusies.

During the summer heat, crochet tools and supplies laid untouched in the depths of the built-in closet until a few days ago I felt that my crafting inspiration has finally returned.

Šoreiz ķēros klāt man neierastai nodarbei - veca, apnikuša vai kaut kādā veidā sabojāta apģērba pārveidošanai, ar visdažādāko tamborēto elementu palīdzību tos izdekorējot. Iepriekš es apnikušās lietas vai nu atdevu maznodrošinātajiem, vai izmetu laukā, ja apģērbam bija kāds šķietami neizlabojams defekts vai tas vienkārši izskatījās novalkāts. Tā kā izmešana tikai vairo jau tā neizmērojamo atkritumu daudzumu zemeslodes izgāztuvēs, šoreiz pieliku radošas pūles, lai maniem vecajiem, brūnajiem svārkiem aiztaupītu garlaicīgu gozēšanos starp vecām konservu bundžām un plastmasas maisiņu koloniju.

This time I waded into a work very unusual for me: transformation of old, boring or damaged pieces of clothes, decorating them with a wide range of crocheted elements. In the past, I either gave my boring clothes to the poor or threw them out if they had some seemingly incorrigible defect or just looked worn-out. Since thrown-out clothes add to the already immense amounts of waste, I decided to take some creative effort and give my old, brown skirt a make-over in order to prevent its pathetic rotting among cans and plastic bag colonies.

Dzijas veikali ar laipnām, radošām pārdevējām ir mana vājība - no tiem nekad neiziešu tukšām rokām :) Arī toreiz mans guvums bija pilns maiss ar dziju. No viena veida dzijas tapa grezna, silta un pūkaina šalle vīra krustmātei, otro izlietoju vīramātes šallei, teātra apmetnim un izsmalcinātai piespraudei (jā, jā, var jau to nosaukt arī par pielīšanu jaunajiem radiem! ;)), bet no trešā veida dzijas vispirms uzdarināju savam burvīgajam vīriņam siltas zeķītes un vēlāk arī sev šo ziemīgo komplektu, kas sastāv no džempera, svārkiem un beretes. Pašai nu ļoti patīk!

This time I'll change the topic from cooking to crafts...

Last fall, walking along the central pedestrian street in Siauliai (Lithuania), I noticed a nice yarn shop with all sorts of hand-made garments in the windows. Yarn stores with friendly and creative sales-women ('cause I've never seen any yarn shop with male employees) are my weakness – I never go out of them empty-handed :) Also this particular time my gain was a full bag of yarn. From one type of yarn I crocheted a luxurious, warm and soft scarf for my husband's aunt. My mother-in-law got another wonderful shawl, an elegant cape and a sophisticated brooch (yes, yes, you may also call it crawling to the new relatives!;)), while from the third type of yarn I knitted warm socks for my beloved husband and later on also this winterish set consisting of a sweater, a skirt and a beret. I simply love it!
