Graudaugu plācenīši ar kāpostu un ābolu salātiem medus mērcē / Rice and buckwheat balls with cabbage and apple salad in honey sauce

Pēc bloga ierakstiem spriežot, var padomāt, ka es reti gatavoju ēst ;) Nē, tā nav - gluži vienkārši pēdējā laikā sanāk gatavot ļoti parastus ēdienus, jo ir daudz darāmā, kas paņem savu tiesu uzmanības. Toties šodien rekords - veseli divi ieraksti!

Judging from the blog entries it may seem that I cook very rarely ;) No, that's not true – my family's meals have just been very simple recently because I've been busy with so many different things that I could not pay attention to something else. Now I want to settle my 'recipe debt' by publishing two recipes in one day (yes, that's a record!).

Rice and buckwheat balls

½ cup rice
½ cup buckwheat
1/3 cup mixed pumpkin and sunflower seeds, soaked and ground
a pinch of asaphoetida, ground cumin and Creole Seasoning (blend consisting of paprika, chili, onion, black pepper, mustard seeds, basil, fennel, garlic and salt)*
1 tbs ghee
salt to taste
ghee or cooking oil for frying
gram flour or breadcrumbs for rolling

Cook the rice and the buckwheat in separate skillets according to the instructions on the package (they have to be very soft, even falling apart). Mix together. Add the seeds, 1 tbs ghee and the spices. Heat ghee or cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Form small cereal balls using your hands, roll them in gram flour of breadcrumbs, put on the pan and fry until they are golden brown.

* a pinch of each spice, i.e. 3 pinches altogether

Kāpostu un ābolu salāti medus mērcē

Apmēram 1/5 vidēji liela kāposta
2 āboli
malti melnie pipari

Cabbage and apple salad in honey sauce

About 1/5 medium cabbage, finely chopped
2 apples, sliced
freshly ground black pepper

Honey sauce: 1/3 cup good olive oil, 1 tbs balsamic vinegar, 1 tsp honey, pinch of salt

Put rice and buckwheat balls on plates, add the salad poured with honey sauce and, if you wish, garnish with fresh dill, parsley leaves and sundried tomatoes.

Zupa rudens noskaņās / Soup in autumn mood

Jā, zinu jau zinu - no blogā publicēto recepšu kopuma zupas veido nospiedošo vairākumu, bet neko nevaru līdzēt, jo tieši tās man visvairāk patīk gatavot!

I know, I know – the overwhelming majority of the recipes published here are soup recipes. I cannot help it, for I simply love to cook soups!

Šodien pusdienās gardu muti apēdām burkānu un ābolu zupu:

For today's lunch, we had a delicious carrot and apple soup:

4 nelieli burkāni
4 vidēji lieli, skābeni āboli
pussīpols
2 krūzes trekna piena
2 ēdamkarotes ghī sviesta
2 tējkarotes karija
1/2 tējkarote garammasalas
sāls
malti melnie un sarkanie pipari (pārkaisīšanai)
pētersīļa lapiņas un saulespuķu sēkliņas (rotāšanai)

4 small carrots, halved and sliced
4 medium-sized sour apples, cubed
½ onion, chopped
2 cups whole milk
2 tbs ghee
2 tsp curry
1/2 tsp garam masala
salt
ground black and red pepper
parsley leaves and sunflower seeds (for garnishing)

Preparation:

Melt ghee in a pan, add curry and garam masala and fry for several seconds (don't burn!). Add the chopped onion and sauté until it is soft yet not browned. Then add the carrots and the apples and fry for a moment so that they soak in the flavor of spices and onion. Add small amount of water and continue to cook under the lid until the carrots are soft. In the meantime, heat the milk in a pot, add the pan contents, mix well and puree using a blender. Add salt to taste and bring the soup to boil. Serve garnished with ground black and red pepper, parsley leaves and sunflower seeds.

Piebilde:

Note:
If you wish your soup to be softer and less spicy, add half the amount of curry or, when blending the soup, add some soda water or sparkling wine.

Virtuves aptamborēšana un mana jaunā "rotaļlieta" / Kitchen crochet and my new "toy"

Šodien notika divas jaukas ar rokdarbiem saistītas lietas.

Two nice craft-related things happened today.

Pirmkārt, es iesāku tamborēt virtuves aizkaru mežģīni. Tamborēšanas shēma atrodama šeit:
http://picasaweb.google.com/jordanaarnas2/PCOuCroche#5136078376800732482

Esmu tikai pašā darba sākumā, bet pilna apņēmības to drīzumā pabeigt.

Firstly, I started to crochet broad lace edging for kitchen curtains. Crochet scheme can be found here:
http://picasaweb.google.com/jordanaarnas2/PCOuCroche # 5136078376800732482

I am only at the beginning of the project, still very determined to complete it in the nearest future.

Secondly, I finally bought a SEWING MACHINE! Today it felt like at Christmas when my husband arrived home from work with the big box :) I haven't sewed anything since the ninth grade (it was 11 years ago), so I will have to study the manual very carefully and gradually refresh my sewing knowledge.

Dvielīši jaunajai virtuvei / Towels for the new kitchen

Nav ne jausmas, kāda beigu beigās izskatīsies virtuve jaunajā mājvietā pēc iekārtošanas, taču pirmās praktiskās lietas - ar mežģīnēm aptamborētus trauku dvieļus - nupat kā pabeidzu taisīt. Ir doma ieviest interjerā vairāk romantikas :)

I haven't the slightest idea how the kitchen in the new apartment will look after furnishing, but the first practical things, 4 towels with crochet edgings, are finished. My husband and I have intended to invite more romance into the interior :)

Kartupeļu un puravu krēmzupa / Potato and leek soup

Pārskatot iepriekšējos ierakstus secināju, ka sen neesmu publicējusi nevienu recepti. Tas, protams, nenozīmē, ka es negatavoju ēst. Nē, es joprojām mizoju, griežu, cepu, vāru un sautēju divas reizes dienā, tikai allaž piemirstu ēdienus nofotografēt :) Šodien esmu nedaudz labojusies un piedāvāju jūsu garšas kārpiņām novērtēt kartupeļu un puravu krēmzupu. Šis ēdiens nav nekas neparasts, taču vienmēr atrodas cilvēki, kas to nav ne reizi baudījuši.

A review of previous entries showed that I have not published any recipe for a long time. Of course, this does not mean that I starve my family and myself. Not at all. I keep on peeling, chopping, frying, cooking and stewing twice a day, yet I always forget to take photos of the readymade dishes :) Today I've grown better and offer your taste buds to assess my potato and leek soup. Although this dish is rather traditional, I always find people who haven't tried it.

Kartupeļu un puravu krēmzupa

Sastāvdaļas (2 personām):

1/2 l karsta ūdens
3 lieli kartupeļi
3 puravi
1 burkāns
1/2 selerijas kāta (var iztikt bez tā)
sīpols
3 ķiploka daiviņas
saišķītis pētersīļu
nedaudz diļļu un svaiga bazilika
sāls
malti melnie pipari
karijs
nigellas sēkliņas
asafetīda
ghī sviests (cepšanai)
paprikas gabaliņi un pētersīļa lapiņas (rotāšanai)

Potato and leek soup

Ingredients (serves 2):

1/2 l hot water
3 large peeled potatoes, cut into 1 cm cubes
3 leeks (pale section only), thinly sliced
1 carrot, peeled and grated
1/2 stalk celery, coarsely chopped (optional)
1 yellow onion, coarsely chopped
3 cloves garlic
fresh parsley, dill and basil
salt
ground black pepper
curry
nigella seeds
asafoetida
ghee or cooking oil (for frying)
tiny cubes of red bell pepper and parsley leaves (for garnish)

Preparation:

Put the ghee or oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. When hot, add the spice (except salt and pepper) and fry for several seconds. Add the onion, the garlic, the celery and the carrot and cook, stirring, for 4-5 minutes. Then add the leeks and cook under the lid for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, then add the potatoes, hot water, salt and pepper. Cook until the potatoes are almost soft, then add parsley, dill and basil and continue to cook until the potatoes are soft. Puree the soup. Serve garnished with bell pepper and parsley.

Bon Appétit!

Viss plūst, viss mainās / Everything flows, nothing stands still

I was so busy with living that had no time and energy for blogging. With the idea of forthcoming move out of the old apartment, my husband and I are looking for new place of residence. Yesterday we finally found a place with good aura :))

Es savā dzīvē esmu daudzkārt pārvākusies, tādēļ man ļoti patīk ar šo procesu saistītās pārmaiņas, izņemot pašu mantu pārnešanas/augšā uznešanas brīdi. Šoreiz būs jākāpj līdz 5. stāvam...

I have lived in 11 different places in my 25-year-long life and I simply love the changes resulting from move to a different house of apartment. The only thing I hate is transporting all possessions into the new place. This time we will have to climb to the 5th floor (sorry, no elevator there).

In the new rent apartment, unlike the current one, there is no furniture – even in the kitchen, there are only four naked walls and a sink without water lines connected. All this means that we will have to work very hard to achieve comfort without spending a lot of money. The last two weeks were spent searching for design inspirations and creative ideas from the internet. Yesterday I presented the findings to my husband.

Minipārvērtības virtuvē / Mini-changes in the kitchen

Lai gan līdz brīdim, kad būs jāizvācas no īrējamā dzīvokļa, ir atlicis mazāk nekā pusotrs mēnesis, es vēl joprojām tajā veicu dažādus pārkārtojumus. Es ticu (un mana pieredze to apliecina), ka pārmaiņas interjerā veicina jaunu vēsmu ienākšanu citās dzīves jomās, tādēļ, dzīvojot kopā ar mani, jārēķinās, ka neviena lieta ilgi nenostāvēs vienā un tajā pašā vietā un nepaliks ierastajā krāsā vai formā.

Although there's less than a month and a half left until we move out of the present rent apartment, I still make different rearrangements here. I believe (and my experience shows) that interior changes cause positive transformations in other areas of life, so, living with me, one must keep in mind that nothing will long remain in the same place, colour or form, for I get bored of permanency very quickly.

Šoreiz mazo, izvelkamo tējas galdiņu piemeklēja pārkrāsošanas liktenis, jo man sagribējās ienest virtuvē vēl vairāk gaišuma, tas ir, baltās krāsas. Speciāli klāju tikai vienu krāsas kārtu, turklāt dažādos virzienos, jo man šķita, ka galdiņam piestāvētu izskatīties nobružāti šikam.

This time, the small black tea table was fated to repainting because I wished to bring more brightness (i.e. white colour) in the kitchen. I intentionally applied a thin layer of paint rotating my hand in different directions in order to achieve the "shabby chic" look.

Šāds bija galdiņa iepriekšējais izskats:

Kaut kas košākām vasaras beigām / Something vibrant for the end of summer

Jaunā džempera tamborēšana tika pabeigta jau jūnija sākumā, taču todien man kā par spīti bija uznācis lielais galu ievilkšanas slinkums (droši vien neesmu vienīgā, kam šī piņķerēšanās ne sevišķi tīk), tādēļ rokdarbs iegūla skapī uz diviem mēnešiem, līdz beidzot es, ieviešot tajā kārtību, izcēlu tamborējumu dienasgaismā un pabeidzu.

Actually, the new crocheted sweater I am presenting today was completed in early June, but, due to that day's "don't-want-to-weave-in-the-yarn-ends" laziness, I stored the unfinished project in the closet for the next two months.

Today, cleaning the closet, I found the unfinished sweater and decided that it's time to bring the project to an end.

Džemperis jau ir lieti noderējis divās vasaras naktīs, brīvdabā apmeklējot īsfilmu seansu un dodoties pastaigā pa pilsētu.

The sweater proved to be useful during two summer nights when I attended open-air short film screenings and went for a walk around the city.

Here's a photo of me wearing the sweater:

Krekliņa reanimācija / Reanimation of a top

Divas dienas nopietni strādāju pie neparedzētiem tulkojumiem, bet šodien, kā jau brīvdienā, radās iespēja rokdarboties. Šajā reizē iedevu otro dzīvību vienkāršam, zaļam krekliņam, uz kura, pērnvasar dekupāžas tehnikā izrotājot lādīti, nejauši uzmetu rozā kleksi.

In the previous two days, I seriously worked on some unplanned translations, but today, as a holiday, I finally got a chance to engage in crafting activities. This time I gave a second life to a simple green top. Last summer I decoupaged wooden boxes and accidentally paintbrushed the top with a drop of pink paint.

To hide the stain, I took mercerized cotton yarn and crocheted three elements of Irish lace, which I later sew on the top. The modified top now looks like this:

Es - priecīga par padarīto:

I – delighted with the result:

Beidzot varēšu krekliņu neslēpt zem džemperiem vai žaketēm un brīvi izbaudīt tajā daļu no atlikušajām siltajām šīgada dienām.

Now there's no need to hide the top under a sweater or jacket. I can fully enjoy the remaining warm days of the year.
